Plots in Cantabria - buy, sell or rent easily
Where to buy land in Cantabria
The cheapest land for sale in the province of Cantabria is in the municipalities of Izara, with a minimum value of €0.50/m²; Molledo, with €1/m²; Drying, with €1.20/m²; Proaño, with €1.30/m²; and Yera, with €1.60/m². The price has such low figures due to the great availability of rustic land for sale.
The towns with the most expensive urban lots are: La Arenosa, Liencres, Santa María de Cayón, Ajo, Gornazo, Queveda and the provincial capital, Santander. The situation of developable plots is like that of urban land since it is concentrated and presents greater demand in the same places.
Protected forest land predominates in Cantabria
Most of the Cantabrian natural areas are protected for their environmental and landscape interest. More than 65% of the area is forested, it is wooded and part of it is included in the Natura 2000 Network. That is why a large part of the land in this Autonomous Community belongs to the classification of Special Protection Rustic Land, followed by Protection ordinary.
The urban area is brought together in the largest cities, where a large part of the services and industry are developed. The surroundings of these populations have developable plots, while a large network of rural nuclei predominates, in whose pasture areas agriculture and livestock are developed.
The Cantabrian government is carrying out a regeneration program for urban and rural areas with actions to encourage activity and fix the young population in the latter. Aid is also provided for the urbanization and redevelopment of neighbourhoods, public and private spaces, as well as for the construction of previously demolished new homes on lots.
Real estate activity is concentrated mainly in Santander, which brings together most of the purchase, sale and rental operations carried out in the region.
From industry to tourism through trade
Despite previously being an industrial region, it has now focused more on services and tourism. Hospitality activities, commerce and logistics stand out. Despite this, the industry accounts for almost 21% of the region's GDP, which continues to focus on exports.
In terms of industrial land, it has the Cantabria Science and Technology Park, with more than 28,000 m² of building space, available for the construction of buildings distributed in urbanized plots. In addition to the industrial parks and estates spread throughout the Cantabrian geography, such as Besaya, Laredo, Tanos, Alto Asón and Sámano, among others.
Between pastures and cows
Cantabria has always stood out for its agricultural vocation, especially livestock (approximately 90% of regional agricultural production) which is specialized in the meat and dairy industry.
Currently, it is committed to organic farming, to which more than 3,400 hectares are dedicated, almost all of which are used for livestock, exceeding 5,500 head of cattle.
In recent years there has been a tendency to abandon the rural area. To combat depopulation, different tax breaks and aid are offered through a rural development program.
A region in constant evolution
Cantabria is a land full of pastures and cows, which does not forget to apply innovation to the agricultural sector while taking care of tourism and promoting industry. It is a region that, despite its differences between coastal and inland areas, has managed to find a balance by supporting rural development to boost its potential.
